MTC Week 4 - Journal

Juni 21, 2016

Today was pretty good! I learned tons of Nederlands and I also made a pretty funny mistake... And slightly creepy mistake. We were learning how to say that we are currently doing something, and I said "ik ben  an het van water vlees drenken" (or something like that) and I was trying to say "I am drinking from the water flask" but instead I accidentally said "I am drinking from the flesh" which was pretty funny. Today we also taught Micheal again and it was hard to figure out if we did well or not. Afterwards our teacher said that we were good teachers though and that michael is just inexpressive. Also, today was SO hot. It was 100 degrees!! we also had a really good devotional about missionary work and how to know if you've been successful, regardless of the amount of baptisms. The wife also gave a really good devotional about the symbolism behind Jesus's parable of the vineyard and that was so good.

Also, the biggest highlight of the day was that I got my PACKAGE. Dad sent me LOADS of stuff that I love, like dark chocolate and dried fruit and pistachios, and I got pictures of my family which is really the best. :) and Katelyn and Cameron's letters were super precious.

Juni 22, 2016 (Wednesday)

Today Elder Ruegger walked in with 16 Dear elder letters in the morning. 16 of them. 15 of them were for zuster Leman and one of them was for me, but overwell it was HILARIOUS. Like what?? Brother Klippel was like "is that a novel?" It turns out that they were all song lyrics, haha. We also hosted today again and there weren't enough boy hosts and too many girl hosts so I stood around for literally two or three hours and only hosted two girls.

Juni 23 Thursday

Today we learned about time... and it sucks. It's like fractions. Zuster De Moors said the funniest thing today about it too. She said "What time is it?" "Oh, just give me five minutes to find out". They also write in military time but when they say what time it is they use our time system. It's super confusing.

Today we had two Australian mission presidents come in and talk to us and they were super cool! i really loved it. Also, apparently Elder Oaks was in one of the German classrooms!! But we did not see him. Lucky Germans. They are across the hall from us and we have this slight feud with them, haha.

Friday Juni 24, 2016

This morning we taught Michael and it was horrible. We taught the plan of salvation and we had taught it to Sam before so we didn't prepare as much about who was going to talk about what and it just went super poorly. It was really awkward and scattered and random. Right after we taught Sam and we tried to learn from our mistakes and that lesson actually went super good.

We didn't see any apostles today :(

We also had TRC today... that was interesting... I asked the girl to read 2 Nephi 32: 1-5... I found the scripture and handed it to her in the Nederlands BvM. I was reading along in Engles and it was taking longer than I had expected. Then when she finished she was like "Five also?" (in Nederlands) and i was like "yeah!" but it was WAY longer than expected again and then I started hearing words like "priesterschap" and "synogogue" and i was like "what... this doesn't sound like the Holy Ghost?" because that's what the scripture was supposed to be about but I figured that maybe it was just a longer translation in dutch or something. So I was like "Wat betankent dat voor u?" (what does this mean to you?) and she starts talking for a while and I'm like not understanding anything... and I'm like in my head 'this isn't right' so I reach forward to look at the scripture and I see that I had given her ALMA 32 and that she had read this extra long five verses for NOTHING. i was SO embarrassed!! it was actually about people humbling themselves and not praying in synagogues or something like that and I was like 'AGH!" But funny thing was that I had accidentally marked it in the dutch book of mormon so later, I picked another scripture for her to read about the Holy Ghost... and accidentally made her read Alma 32:5... again... it was SO embarrassing!!! Zuster Leman was like "Um no more scriptures" hahaha.

Also, today the Albi's got their travel plans today!!! And we are going to get ours next week!! CRAZY. Luckily the Albi's don't leave until the 4th.

Saturday Juni 25, 2016

I accidentally wore basketball shorts under my skirt without realizing it for like half of today. It was odd. We have still seen no apostles today :/

Sunday Juni 26, 2016

Today... was really weird. We had church and during our study time one of our branch leaders (brother Packer) came in and told us this story about how he almost died, and how he went to the emergency room and they were trying to find his veins to give him more blood but they were too narrow and then they tried his neck three times and then the doctor gave up but then he felt prompted by the spirit to try one more time and it saved his life. It was an absolutely incredible story... except that I started to feel super woozy at the beginning of it. Then I started sweating super bad, and my vision started to blur, and then at around halfway through my ears started RINGING, like ringing and I knew that I was going to pass out if i didn't do something about it. Usually I would lay down like the nurses have told me before but clearly I couldn't do that! I didn't want to be rude! But I was feeling super uncomfortable and so I just leaned forward and rested my head on my desk and I felt really bad because I didn't want him to think I was ignoring him or bored but I knew that I was going to pass out if I didn't, especially because of the strange ringing. When I laid my head down I started feeling slightly better and the ringing was started to fade but my vision was still blurring and at that point he finished his story (I'm not sure what the second half was about) and he was like "are you okay Zuster Haynie?" and I lifted up my head and i was like 'i'm sorry i get really woozy easily" and then Zuster De Moors said "You look really really pale..." and he was like "lay down or lay your head down" and I was like "i've been trying" but I put my head all the way down to my lap and it made me feel a lot better although for me laying down on my back is usually best and helps me recover faster. Elder Ruegger said "this is worse than when you got your blood drawn" Fortunately I did not pass out but I came super super close and I was exhausted for the rest of the day.

We got to eat lunch today on BYU campus which is pretty unusual but also fun because it was a change. Also, the steak they served me was literally bleeding. I don't think I will ever eat steak again.

Later that day our branch leader came in and apologized to me and it was really nice of him but I really hope that he doesn't feel bad about telling us the story. It's truly an amazing story but I just can't handle it.

This week has been super good!! I can't believe that there is only two more weeks left here!! So crazy!!

MTC Week 3 - Journal

Juni 14

Today has been somewhat different from other days. This morning Brother Cooper taught our class and we were just like dead and so quiet, all of us. Then after lunch and exercise we were all like crazy hyper. Brother Klippel was teaching our class after lunch and he was like "what the heck... Brother Cooper said you were all super quiet..."

We also got to teach "Micheal" today. It was interesting because it felt like he wasn't our teacher anymore, he was actually Michael. Pretty cool. The new Huns come tomorrow! We're all SO excited. And plus we're all hosting too! Today we've decorated the new Hun's doors with decorations and pictures and drawings and little notes that say like "Time is racing toward us... till the Huns... Arrive!!" So great. It's been fun having everyone in our room making decorations. Plus, I got three letters today and that was super awesome.

Woonsdag Juni 15

Today was super fun! Kind of! Today we hosted some new missionaries in the burning sun. My district got to host some of the early morning ones. We had like 450 missionaries coming in (although next week we're supposed to have literally 700, plus 150 new Mission Presidents). I hosted two missionaries and I almost teared up while they hugged their parents and said goodbye and were crying. ;( It's crazy to think that I've been here for fifteen days already, because I feel like I just got here but also like I've been here for ages. Also, the new Huns are here!!! There's like fourteen of them!!! Nine elders and five sisters. We might have overwhelmed them because we were so excited for them to be here but we did bring them this giant offering of food in this huge box.

Also, we have a LOT of things to do this week...I have to prepare a lesson to teach Michael, our new Investigator Sam, Sam again, and then we teach two TRC lessons and then we're teaching both our District Meeting AND Relief Society on Sunday! AND my collega and I are going to sing a duet during sacrament meeting. CRAZINESS. I'm super terrified of singing! Fortunately my collega is fantastic at it.

Doonsdag Juni 16

Today I was really tired but I also had a lot of fun. Breakfast was really full because they're building something in our cafeteria for the new Mission presidents so there's limited seating and it is craziness. Class was good and we taught Michael today. It didn't go very well I don't think... We also learned past tense. Joyce was our teacher today also later in the day and we had to learn the plan of salvation in dutch under three minutes and then again in under one minute. Then I accidentally interpreted what Sister Hannson (we accidentally call her Joyce all the time because that's what we called her when she was our investigator) said when she was telling us to tell each other the plan of salvation in dutch and I was like "wait, you want us to pretend street contact random people outside?" and then the rest of class was like LETS DO IT and I was like "AGH!" so we all went outside and we would randomly find random missionaries walking past and speak rapidly over the Plan of Salvation in dutch even though they couldn't understand us. The guy I talked to was going to Guam and was like laughing so hard. He was like "Where are you going? What are you speaking??" and I was like "dutch!" and he saw me again a couple of times throughout the day and he kept saying "hello dutch sister!"

Dinner was also crazy today. There were like no seats and we had to stand and eat and watch for people who were leaving their tables, so technically poaching for a spot. We also practiced our song for sacrament meeting today. Zuster Lechtanburg is going to play the violin with us. We're going to play "How Great Thou Art".  Oh, and we're hosting again next wednseday! It's going to be insane.

Juni 17

Today was interessant. We did a lot of language study and we got to teach Sam. He wanted to know about the temples and it was our best lesson ever, I think. We explained how in the temple we make promises to our Heavenly Father and seal our familes together so that they can always be together. We also taught him to pray, and it didn't feel random or anything but pretty fluid because we first got to know him, then we asked if we could pray and then explained the importance of prayer, like that Heavenly Father just really wants to listen to us because he loves us. And then we asked him to pray tonight and told him a little bit about the Book of Mormon to prepare for the next lesson. We also practiced for our song today. I'm so nervous for it AGH!

We did our first TRC today, which is when we teach members of the church of a lesson. Which is REALLY stressful because what can I teach them in my broken dutch?? The first guy was cool, he was super nice and an RM. The second guy though was SUPER SCARY. Like he was awesome, but really scary to teach. He was super old and actually from the Netherlands, like came to America in the 1950 after WWII (I wanted to ask him tons of questions about that but obviously that would not be very appropriate). Plus, we couldn't understand his English let alone his Dutch! It was really hard. Also our lesson we had prepared happened to be "endure to the end".... Fortunately we read a scripture and then asked him what he thought about it and he talked for literally 20 minutes straight and it was fantastic, we didn't have to say anything. It was overall very stressful though. Afterwards, Sister Hanson talked a little to the old guy and even she had a hard time understanding what he was saying! It was rough...

Zaterdagg Juni 18

Today was really exhausting but also super snel (fast). We taught Sam again today and I think that it went really well. I spoke a ton on my own without ever using my notes and enough to get my point across. I felt really good about it. We excercised in this different fitness center today and that was pretty fun because you could watch these movies at the same time (like talks and Joseph Smith movies) and even though I couldn't hear what they were saying, moving screens can be addicting anyway. I also study a lot while I'm running on the elliptical or biking with my flashcards, which helps.

I can't believe that it is SATURDAY already! It was JUST saturday! Like yesterday I thought! I'm worried about tomorrow though because of how hectic it's going to be. Hopefully it all goes well.

Zuster De Moors and Zuster Smith are sick right now, which is both sad but also kind of funny, because Zuster De Moors adamantly tries to keep Zuster Leman and I from getting "the nasty". She has started spraying everything she touches with what she thought was an antibacterial spray but we later found out was air-deodorant, so it did literally nothing. LOL. She's literally the funniest person I have ever met in my entire life, like you need to hear the things that come out of her mouth. She is hilarious.

Zondagg Juni 19

Today was really good! We sang "How Great Thou Art" in sacrament meeting and I feel really good about it, especially for someone who doesn't sing. Zuster Lechtanburg played the alto part with me on the violin which was a huge help to make sure we sang in the right key. Zuster Leman has a beautiful soprano solo voice and I think I'm pretty good at harmonizing in tune with the alto part so we're a good duo. We sang the first verse in dutch and the second in English. We got a lot of compliments and Elder Jeanay (our super awesome and nice zone leader) was like "we're going ask you to do that every week!" and we were like "NEI!" I'm really proud of myself for branching out and doing something that I find pretty scary. One of the Noveraks (that's the word for sisters in Hungarian) said that our trio gave her chills! It was a really good sacrament meeting. We also went on a walk up to the temple. I got to know a lot of the new Huns.

In church Zuster Leman taught about Recognizing the Spirit for Relief Society and then I took over for the District Meeting and I talked about Baptism and Receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost and I think that it went pretty well!

We had a devotional today too and this guy invited four recent converts to come up and talk about their conversion story which was really interesting and a cool change of pace. Afterwards we got to watch our "movie" and we picked Elder Bednar's talk about "recognizing the spirit" and it was SO good. Here are some really cool points that he said:

- If you want to feel the Holy Ghost help you know what to do, you have to press forward not sit back! He will guide you as you move, not as you wait around for an answer.

- Most impressions are quiet gentle ones that you don't necessarily recognize until later.

- He told a story about how when he was a missionary, Elder Packer came to his mission in Southern Germany. Elder Packer needed to go to the airport but his plane was fogged in so Elder Bednar as a missionary had to find a different way for Elder Packer and his wife to go to Berlin or something. He got him on a train and gave Elder Packer 20 marks (which was kind of a lot of money) because he thought that Elder Packer might be hungry. 30ish years later, Elder Bednar found out what happened when Elder Packer and his wife were on the train. The train went through Eastern Germany for a time and an East German guard came to inspect their passports. Elder Packer's passport was fine but his wife's was an extended passport, which East Germany currently wasn't accepting. The East German guard didn't speak English and Elder Packer didn't speak German, but he could tell that the situation was getting really bad. He found the twenty marks in his pocket and ended up giving it to the East German guard so that they wouldn't take his wife. Elder Bednar had had no idea that what he'd done had been inspired, which just proves how soft the voice of the spirit can be.

- Overall, he said that when trying to recognize the spirit, you need to just stop worrying about it, and move forward. he will direct your path, which I think is very cool.

This week is going to be pretty interesting! ALL of the apostles AND the prophet is going to be here sometime this week!! We probably won't see them but STILL I'm going to be on the same campus as the prophet!! They are coming to instruct the new Mission Presidents that are coming so they'll be walking around on the MTC campus. If we see them we can't go up to them but still, I would love to see one! I probably won't though, haha.

I love you all! Tot ziens!!

MTC Week 2 - Journal

Tuesday June 7th

Today was... interresant... (interesting). Our Zone calls it... Magic Tuesday. It might be slightly TMI so don't read the next sentence if you don't want to know. All of the people going to Belgium/Netherlands have to get a stool sample, hahaha. So all of the Suriname missionaries learning Dutch with us laughed at us. Our district went to the health clinic giggling because we knew what we had to do. Elder Ruegger just laughed at us as the nurse gave us the instructions. Then I found out that we had to get blood drawn. I started to panic because I'm not afraid of needles or vaccines but I am absolutely terrified by VEINS. I was like nearly in tears and so embarrassed and Elder Ruegger was like "do you need water?" and I was like "no but I need to go first!!" I sort of demanded going first when she came back because I was already woozy from the thought of it. I've never gotten my blood drawn. My Collega came with me and I was basically crying and the nurse was super nice and it pretty much wasn't that bad and I overreacted, but I still got really woozy and had to lie down for a little bit which really helped me calm down. Haha... Also, the stool sample wasn't super horrible. I have the instructions still in my journal, because that's heel belangrijk (very important) :)

We had our third lesson with Joyce today and it went okay. I kind of just read from a script because my vocab is still so limited. She's so adorable though.

Also, today Elder Bednar came!!!! IT WAS AMAZING. We sang in the choir for this song that he wrote, and his grandchildren were there and it was just a really special experience. He spoke about how the Lord came one by one to the people of Americas, and that is how he views each of us. One by one. And as missionaries we will go out two by two to help the one by one. It was really awesome. After the devotional I felt really good. Also, my dad and mom wrote to me through dear Elder! I loved hearing from them.

Wednesday June 8th

Today was pretty good. About 100 new missionaries came in today. (When I came in it was closer to 400... this upcoming Wednesday I believe is supposed to 100ish again but the week after that is supposed to be 700!!!! LIKE WHAT? (or it's this Wednesday...) Apparently when the age change occurred, like 1000 were coming in at a week. It was severely overcrowded).  Every time my collega and I saw the new missionaries, we said in our heads (not to them because that would be mean) "hmm... this day is going to suck for you..." The first day is the worst. We get to host the new missionaries this next Wednesday though!! It's going to be so fun! I will tell them that if their first few days is really hard, to just wait until the next week. It gets so much better after P-Day. I also can't believe that I've been here for a full week. The days feel very long but also very quick? Like efficient. It goes by faster when you are more efficient and really value your study time. We studied a lot but we all get distracted pretty easily too... Unfortunately we're literally stuck in the same classroom for like 12 hours... Lunch was good today. It's like a hit and miss. It was "indian food" and the naan was terrible and crunchy but I was still happy with it because lately it's been gross. I study a lot during exercise time while I'm on the elliptical or the bike or running around the track.

At dinner, I got super sick though and almost threw up while we were planning our lesson. Not sure where that came from but it was really horrible and unpleasant. So while I was feeling sick we still had to teach Joyce. That lesson wasn't that good for me and I didn't really say much. I hope that I do better tomorrow. We are all getting along really well though as a district I think. No one is grumpy anymore and I ADORE my zusters!! They are all so funny. Like you need to hear the things Zuster De Moors says. And also Zuster Leman.

Thursday June 9th

I can't believe that I've been here for 9 days! I'm starting to really adjust. I have felt really happy all day. Today I got some more study flash cards and they are way more helpful than my notebook. I have these handy dandy note things that I attach to my key card. I will show a picture of them. Also, I sort of feel like I'm never leaving here, like that's totally fake and there's no such place as the Netherlands or Belgium and I'm not going to go there... this Dutch learning is just for fun. Today Brother Klippel taught more about sentence structure and that was super helpful. Finally! Also, we taught Joyce today about Adam and Eve and I did AWESOME (for someone with limited vocab...) Like I had to answer some question that I hadn't preplanned for and I think I did fine for someone who can barely understand the question. She was like "why was eating the forbidden fruit a good thing then?" (in dutch of course) and I was like "uh.... adam and Eve haved two choices (all of this said in horrible grammer of course) they choose one... " Something like that. It was tough because I knew what I wanted to say but not how to say it in Dutch. It was also partly Nederangles, which is what we call speaking a mix of nederlands and English. Nederangles.

Also, today we studied outside because it was just so beautiful and the Huns in our zone found this baby bird that couldn't fly! And they carried it around and we found teeny tiny worms and fed it to him. It was so cute! I also got two letters today, one from Cameron and the other from mom! I was so happy! Also, the food here didn't make me sick today!

Friday June 10th

Today was so good! I felt really positive. I'm getting along really well with Zuster Leman. We have a lot of differing opinions but for some reason we really get along. We joke around a lot and have a ton of the same humor. Zij denkt dat (I'm) grapig! (She thinks I'm funny!) I think that she is too! The language is coming... I'm trying my best and it's far easier than Japanese. It's the easiest language in our zone. The Huns and Turks and Albanians have SUCH difficult languages... And whenever we see the Finnish missionaries I just think "oh man... best luck and prayers to you..." We got accidentally distracted multiple times today, unfortunately. About Prizzly Bears. And Sea Cows.

Also, apparently yesterday was our last time teaching Joyce! We only have one teacher, Brother Klippel, while most districts have two, so usually in the evening we don't have a teacher when we're supposed to technically have one. This evening the teacher from the other district was supposed to come but someone else came too... JOYCE. She's our teacher now! We were like "WHAT THE HECK". Her name is Sister Hansen and she got off of her mission three months ago. Also... our teacher, brother Klippel, is now going to be our onderzoeker (investigator). And that's scary for me because that's embarrassing to fail at Dutch while teaching your dutch teacher. Ik ben bang. But I think our lesson is sounding pretty good so far. Also, Zuster Leman and Zuster De Moors are the most hilarious people I have ever met. They are so funny. Also, I got a letter from Aunt Donetta today and that was really awesome. I also got one from mom too. I love getting Dear Elders. We all do.

Saturday June 11th

IT RAINED TODAY. Today wasn't super amazing but I vastly appreciated the rain. Also the T-Shirt we ordered came in. I LOVE IT. It has our map and flags on it. Today was longer than usual though. Not much really different happened today. The Huns leave for Hungary on monday! So crazy!! We did service this morning too, involving setting up chairs and cleaning chalkboards. Also, Zuster Leman tried to draw a cartoon of Elder Dvorak. He crumpled it up and threw it away, LOL. Her art was not appreciated.

Sunday June 12th

Vaandagg was my second Zondagg here!! YAY. Only four more Sundays here in the MTC. We got up early and had cereal for breakfast. It was the only option. Zuster De Moors was very disappointed because she brought her blender and there wasn't much fruit.... Yes Zuster De Moors brought a blender. And a juicer. And 100 pens. and a ukelele. And this african instrument. She also doesn't have everything she actually needs though. It's pretty funny. The Huns leave tomorrow! So in sacrament meeting they sang Come Thou Fount in Hungarian and Dorny Nover played the violin. It was beautiful. Singing in sacrament meeting is pretty fun because we all sing in our new languages so it sounds pretty strange but awesome.

Monday June 13th

I have loved getting the Dear Elder letters! They are the best! They really lift my spirits at the end of the day and I love it. Today is PDAY!!! HAPPINESS!! Also, the Huns left at 4 in the morning and their flight was 17 hours long!!! Including layovers I assume. Our zone is a lot smaller now though, since eight of them have left. The new Hungarians come this Wednesday though. We are getting FIFTEEN new Huns! Our zone is already pretty big. I'm so excited!

MTC Week 1 - Journal

June 1st

Today Sea-Tac was not busy at all which was such a relief! It was literally faster than the time when Claire and I went through the John Wayne Airport to come home. I found a bunch of other missionaries boarding on the plane and that was awesome to meet a bunch of them. An Elder from Olympia is serving in my same mission which is so awesome! When we got to the MTC, we were rushed around a ton, and I had like no time to eat my lunch. But I was still early... After putting our luggage away we were rushed straight to whatever classes we had. For me that's Language study. I was brought straight to the Dutch classroom, and I was the first one there. Brother Klippel, our Dutch teacher, starts talking to me in Dutch immediately and I'm like "AGHH" I was there a whole hour before another Dutch missionary showed up but it was fine because the Dutch Teacher was pretty cool and I could ask lots of questions. There are two elders in my district, Elder Rueger and Elder Dvorak, and three other sisters, Zuster Leman (who's from Idaho and is my Companion) Zuster Smith (who's from Utah) and Zuster Smith, whose from around Atlanta, Georgia). The first day was REALLY hard though. It was really fun learning the language right away but we were so busy for the whole first day that I was exhausted and emotional. We met the rest of our Zone, which includes the other Dutch District, and the Albanians, Turks, and Hungarians. There is an Elder and a Sister from England and a Brother from New Zealand, so they both have super awesome accents. They are all here for nine weeks while we're only here for six. I was so excited to sleep though...

June 2nd

Today I was still really tired but the day was better than yesterday. It really did feel so long though. This morning honestly feels like days ago. Last night I didn't sleep very great. I tried to be talkative in all my classes when I would have usually been silent. We got to write to our parents briefly too which was so great. We also had Classroom Instruction for like three hours. I love this language so much and it so cool how much I have already learned!! We are teaching our first 'investigator' tomorrow. I feel like everyone is catching on a lot faster than me, which is really intimidating. Three of them have taken German in high school which helps but also doesn't. They're experienced in the sentence structure but a lot of the words are really close to German words but pronounced totally differently so that's hard for them to relearn. This day has been so long though, and I was so excited to sleep. Waking up at 6:00-6:30 has been difficult.

June 3rd

Today was good and bad. Waking up was hard and I was way more tired than usual. The food here also isn't the greatest... I am not a big fan of it... Classroom instruction is really fun but I feel like I'm falling behind. Exercise time was not fun, it was really hot and my whole zone wanted to play volleyball (the sport that I am so bad at... haha) so I watched them play it outside. Hopefully my companion will be okay with going to the gym next time. It's been really hot here, like 90's. And I do not like the heat haha! It feels really nice in the evening though. I learned that Zuster De Moors is an acting major! Pretty cool. In the evening we did our first lesson for Joyce. It went pretty good for someone who has only been learning for three days. Also, I got a Dear Elder letter that evening which really made me feel good. It was from Sister Barnard and I loved it.

June 4th

Today is so tiring! Ik ben heel moe! (I am very tired!) Last night I felt like I had only been asleep for a few seconds. Zuster Leman and Zuster Smith both accidentally erased their swipe cards because of the magnets on our nametags, so they can't get into the buildings!! Which is kind of funny. We'll fix it on Monday, which is our P-Day. Dat is heel grapig! (That is very funny!) There is still a lot to know in our language, but I did a lot better today. We had an extra-long day and I ran around the indoor track for our exercise time, which also wore me out more. I can't wait until P-Day... I was so tired that I could barely learn anything, haha.

June 5th (Sunday)

What the British girl in my zone said is true! Just wait until Sunday and everything will get better. It's so true. I had a hard day but by the evening it was truly amazing. I am on a spiritual high. It was fast Sunday so I was EXHAUSTED and it was 90 degrees. And at the MTC they do a 24 hour fast. I was also feeling kind of sick and I was extra homesick today as well. Then we went on a temple walk after our church activities. (We all sing in our learning languages, which is really awesome to listen to. There's a mix of Dutch, Hungarian, Albanian, and Turkish!) The walk was pretty but it was 90 degrees.... I was questioning my testimony and why I was here and if I could really even do this it all for a whole year and a half. Because this is SO hard. But I got my answer this evening. After dinner, we had a devotional. I wasn't really looking forward to that. Then I found out when we walked in that it was Sherri L Dew! YES. She got stuck in really bad traffic and we all prayed for her to get here and she did! Then she jokingly told us for us to pray for a husband for her, which was so funny. Sherri L Dew talked about how we can ask questions to God, and to be a spiritual seeker. It was really cool. Then after that we got watch a 'movie' which is not a movie... It's an old recorded talk. We chose Character of Christ by Elder Bednar and it was SO GOOD. I LOVED IT. Seriously changed my life. (Also Bednar is coming next Tuesday!!) He talked about how Christ always turns outward when the natural man would turn inward. We need to stop worshiping ourselves and help others instead. If you focus on finding yourself, you won't find it. If you lose yourself in the Lord's work, you'll find it... but you won't have been looking for it. Afterwards I realized that the mission field is hard, but it's not about me and this is all preparation to help others in the Netherlands. I can't do it alone but God will help me when I rely on him. It was honestly amazing and exactly what I needed to hear right then. It was really awesome that it was targeted to missionaries too.

June 6th

Today is P-Day! YAY! We went to the temple this morning and it was nice and peaceful. It was a good experience, and we took pictures. And now I am writing this! This is what I looked forward to the most.
